Nickie Gott OBE
My Role: MD, prop maker, biggest tea drinker and most emotional (I cry at most things)
What I love about my job: I love the vibe when the team get their teeth into an event. The idea creation sessions are just fantastic the team work to the mantra “anything is possible’. The best bit is seeing the end result.
What I do when I’m not at work!: I have a passion for cooking and baking and decorate cakes. I also have a large family network and there is always a party to go to or birthday to plan. My favourite times are sat in my local in front on the fire with my family with a nice glass of Shiraz and spending time with my beautiful grandson Reid.
Favourite She’s Gott It! moment: i have to say winning the NE woman entrepreneur award really did leave me speechless and then of course I cried! But every event we do is like a big jigsaw puzzle putting all the pieces together and the emotion I feel when the puzzle is complete and we are delivering the events is overwhelming.
Nickie Gott founded She’s Gott It! in April 2002 and the company has now become renowned for challenging the industry standard and creating exciting events internationally, focusing on the feasibility, strategic direction, creation, planning and ultimate successful delivery and management of events. Nickie has previously won the NE Women Entrepreneur of the Year, NE Entrepreneur of the Year and Regions Best Small Business and most recently the company has been awarded 2 national event awards of Best practice and Best Event.
Following her award in 2007 for NE Women Entrepreneur Nickie became actively involved in supporting and growing the regions female business community and entrepreneurs. Nickie’s commitment to growing the regions female talent pool then led to her forming the NE Women’s Advisory board as part of the North East Chamber of Commerce in September 2012. Through this group Nickie actively supports and promotes female entrepreneurship as her personal experiences have demonstrated the need to use networks and mentors to grow regional talent. Nickie also drives and supports the annual NE Women Entrepreneur of the year awards that take place each November and acts as a business mentor to a number of businesses.
Nickie is a very determined person who has had to face up to some serious challenges, but does not accept defeat. She has faced numerous challenges that include failing all of her 8 o’levels at 16, being made redundant at 3 months pregnant with her first child, having a seriously ill second child and recovering from breast cancer and treatement in 2008. Nickie constantly strives to set herself goals and achieve them but also works tirelessly to inspire the next generation by speaking and working within schools and colleges to share her story. Alongside this Nickie now sets herself regular challenges including taking part in the Great North Run and host events to fundraise for Cancer Research.
