After the successful delivery of the NE Satellite Applications Conference 2018, titled ‘Tomorrow’s World: Discovering The Possibilities’, which took place at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham on Thursday 22nd March 2018, we are proud and delighted to announce that we have already commenced work on next year’s event.
She’s Gott It! won the tender to deliver the NE Satellite Applications Conference for a period of three years for: 2018, 2019 & 2020.
‘Tomorrow’s World: Discovering The Possibilities’ Conference 2018, which took place on Thursday 22nd March was opened/chaired by John Bone – Chair of NE Satellite Applications CoE who welcomed/introduced the following speakers: Shaun Whitehead – Scoutek, Graham Turnock – CEO of UK Space Agency, Stuart Martin – CEO of Satellite Applications Catapult, Austen Atkinson – Lexicon Science, Si Brown – CEO Skignz, Simon Tricker – Urban Foresight, Omar Al-Janabi – Teesside University, Ben Mawhinney – Drone Labs, Al Yong – Superfly Guys, Ralph Dinsley – NORSS Ltd, Richard Eyers – Shell, George Gerring – Environment Agency, and Professor Louise Bracken, Executive Director – Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience at Durham University, Michael Lawrence – Deimos Space, Ian Downey – ESA, John Reed – Durham County Council.
2018’s conference focused on highlighting the business opportunities that exist for developing data-led satellite applications to solve industry challenges. Organised on behalf of the North East Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence, 2018’s event was the fourth in a series of annual gatherings which focus on some of the key challenges facing the sector.
On the evening prior to the 2018 conference a Pre-Conference Drinks Reception was held at Durham Castle, kindly sponsored by Durham University.
Next year’s conference will be titled: ‘Discovering the Possibilities: Into the Blue’. The conference will take place on Thursday 28th March 2019 at The National Glass Centre in Sunderland. There will be another Pre Conference Drinks Reception taking place at The Peacock Restaurant (upper floor) on Wednesday 27th March 2019, where delegates/guests will have drinks, buffet and take part in a quiz.
The theme is “Into the Blue”, looking at the Foresight report on the Future of the Sea and responding to the challenges and recommendations set out. We are looking at speakers for the following topics:
- The ocean economy context
- Using the sea for resources (food, energy)
- Using the sea for trade and travel (global trade, human movement, connected ports and connected shipping, illegal shipping)
- Saving the sea (pollution, marine biodiversity, warming)
- Protecting us from the sea (sea level rise, coastal observation and coastal communities economies)
- Deep sea (sea blindness, exploration for resources)
